Starting Jan. 1, 2016, all mold remediators working in New York State will be required to be have completed state-approved training courses, and be licensed to work.

Liverpool-based restoration company, Cleantec, will host an approved training course through the National Organization of Remediators and Mold Inspectors (NORMI) next month.

The new state law requires anyone who inspects for, or conducts remediation on any mold contamination to be licensed by the state. The law is in response to problems resulting from contractor cleanup attempts after Superstorm Sandy. New York State is requiring three licenses related to working on mold contamination projects: assessor, remediator, and abatement worker.

NORMI is one of a handful of organizations now approved by the state to provide the required training to satisfy the licensing requirement.  Cleantec will host the training Dec. 1-4 at its Liverpool facility. All three licenses will be taught concurrently.
