There’s something about this industry that I truly believe is unique to restorers. It’s difficult for those who have known nothing but restoration to recognize, but for anyone coming in from the “outside,” you feel it as soon as you meet your first fellow restorer.
This month, the Restoration Industry Association celebrates 70 years of leadership in an ever-growing, ever-evolving, and ever-changing industry. Like the restoration world, the association has changed names, leaders, and focuses a number of times over the years. But at its core, the RIA is the same today as it was when it was founded in 1946: an organization focused on serving other people.
Chuck Violand spent a little time chatting with R&R back in 2016, just after becoming RIA president, about the future of the restoration industry, and more specifically his visions for the Restoration Industry Association in the coming years.
